Starting the Journey
My adventure with the OpenAI community began when DALL-E 2 was in its beta phase. I joined the Discord server, a place bustling with creativity and prompt sharing.
Early into the beta I discovered a potential exploit in the web API and went through the proper channels and alerted the staff to this issue. I believe this and the fact that I was very active and helpful in the community led the OpenAI team to see potential in my contributions and extended an invitation to join the server staff, not just to help fix bugs but also to help build a community where people can learn about AI models in a responsible way.
A Moment in the Spotlight
Fast forward to the DALL-E 3 beta, an era where text generation and photorealism took a significant leap forward. As an early tester, I was diving deep into the capabilities of this new model, pushing its limits and exploring its nuances. The OpenAI team was on the lookout for compelling examples to showcase the advancements in DALL-E 3. I was thrilled to find my experiments not only recognized but also featured in the OpenAI blog post for DALL-E 3. This acknowledgment was more than just a nod to my participation; it was a celebration of the community's collective curiosity and ingenuity.
Beyond Moderation
Moderating the OpenAI Discord wasn't just about overseeing discussions. It involved being part of the behind-the-scenes mechanics of community engagement. From the onset, my role has been multifaceted, balancing between guiding newcomers and planning community events. I've been fortunate enough to work along side OpenAI staff and it's been a blast interacting with everyone and seeing the excitement for AI to grow while ensuring a supportive environment, and to support our other server staff in facilitatating larger community initiatives.
